Born in Saint-Marcellin, in the French Alps, Ballouhey studied Art at the Arts Déco school in Grenoble and later at Les Beaux Arts in Paris. He’s done cartoons for various newspapers : Notre Temps, La Lettre du Cadre, Le Journal de l’Animation, Association Mode d’emploi, 60 Millions de Consommateurs, Bâtimétiers, Le Moniteur, The Guardian, The New- Yorker, le Mémorial de l’Isère, Les Épines drômoises, Siné-Hebdo, La Mèche, Zélium, Fluide Glacial, Le Monde, Jeune Afrique and Barricade. He’s done illustrations for a younger readership in the best-selling collection “Copain...”: Copain des bois, Copain des villes, Copain des champs, Copain des Alpes for Editions Milan... He’s also done textbook illustrations: La balle aux mots for Ed. Nathan, Good bye USA, bonjour la France for Barrons Juveniles, Collins... He teaches editorial cartoon at the “École Émile Cohl” in Lyons. He has published humour books : “Gros Mots” La Sirène, “Rêves de Cochons” L’Arganier, “2007, Chaussettes”, “2008 ’Pas la frite !”, “Goguenard, “Irrévérencieux !”Le Bateau-Camionnette, “Les rennes aussi sont des ordures !” Éditions Lajouanie.... He has also held personal exhibitions and taken part in several collective events.
